Mafia Game World Cups

Have you ever heard about Mafia World Cup events? Some of them are held in Kiev, Ukraine some in Las Vegas, US… Interesting, isn’t it?

At the moment, I obtain the position of the founder and current president of the first English speaking Mafia club in Kiev. For the first time I heard about Mafia World Cup about 1 or 2 years ago. I thought: “Hm, that might be a very interesting experience for our club members.” Some people, who were in charge of World Mafia Cup event asked me whether anybody from English Mafia Club members want to participate in it. My answer was: “Maybe… I should probably. And in what language are you going to play? Because, we have at least one American guy, who might be interested in participation. BTW, citizens of what countries are going to join this Word’s Mafia Cup?”

As soon as they told me it was going to be in Russian language and in Kiev – I understood that we would hardly have an interest to join the event. How could THE WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP of an intellectual game be in Russian language? Since when has Kiev become a better world’s capital in comparison with New York, London, Dubai, Paris or Rome?

Basically the main participants were from different cities of Ukraine. As far as I understood this championship became “world’s” because there were players, who came from Russia, Georgia and other post Soviet Union countries.

The other World’s Cup has taken place this year (2013) in Las Vegas, United States. And all games there were in English. There was also some prize at around $5K-$15K for the winners. So, in general all of that sounded really interesting and worth of spending time and money. BUT! It looks attractive until you take a look to the list of participants of the event. Most of them are Caucasian people. Simply, looking at the final game you will see only one American guy and 9 other people, who are talking with a very strong Russian accent.

So, once again: are the people from post Soviet Union countries the only ones, who can play intellectual game Mafia well? Unlikely.

There are mafia clubs at least in Palermo, London, New York, San-Francisco, Toronto. Just in our English club Kiev you can meet Danish people, Persians, Australians and etc.

So there are people around the world, who can play Mafia game pretty well. It’s really possible to gather players from 8-10 different nations at one final game and see the REAL international battle in the international language.

To be honest, I don’t have any experience and relations to make it all happen just on my own… But that would be really great if the leaders of both “world’s” cups combine their network, experience and power to arrange a real worldwide Mafia battle. I’d be really happy to add value to such activity!

I bet the winners would become some players from the clubs in Moscow or Kiev, because we have more practice and more players here. But it would be really interesting to challenge that statement! This is could end up as a real profitable and huge Mafia festival, where the most intelligent mafia players come to share their professional tricks.

And would YOU be interested to attend some of the Mafia World’s Championships?
